What does Fulfill & Abolish mean?
What did Jesus mean when he said he did not come to abolish the Torah? But rather to Fulfill? is this another lost in translation episode? - Matthew 5:17
So often is the case, that the English word and it's meaning, doesn’t do the Hebrew word justice. In fact, the English abolishes the Hebrew.
To abolish Torah, was to misinterpret, so as not to have to obey God's instruction. It was to interpret the Torah Instruction incorrectly. If you interpret incorrectly you were said to have abolished the Torah.
To fulfill the Torah, was to interpret God's instructions properly, correctly. Jesus came to school everyone. Jesus was the new interpreter who came to interpret it correctly.
PS- Fulfill here is not regarding the Fulfillment of prophecy.
