The seating chart to the Last Supper

The seating chart for Jesus' Last Supper Event, is often taken for granted. But having an understanding of who sat where together with the scripture readings helps the reader create a visual in their mind. The first thing to understand is there were no chairs. They sat close together is a sort of stacking position Reclining on each other. And all their feet were exposed to the outside for easy washing. Read the related Bible verses to help you place the key characters: Jesus, John, Judas, and Peter as too where they each sat.

John 13:23-25 One of His disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus. Simon Peter motioned to him to find out who it was He was talking about. So he leaned back against Jesus and asked Him, “Lord, who is it?”

Matthew 26:23 He replied, “The one who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl — he will betray Me.

Luke 22:24-27 24 Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest. 25 But He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles dominate them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and whoever leads, like the one serving. For who greater the one at the table or the one serving? Isn’t it the one at the table? But I am among you as the One who serves.

Look at this diagram. Peter is seating on the position of least importance. Which if one understands this scripture story it makes a lot more sense.
